SAE AS4950B – Design and Performance Criteria Transport Aircraft Portable Megaphones

This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) provides design criteria and performance tests for portable hand-held battery-powered electronic megaphones used by aircraft crew members to provide information and guidance in the event of an aircraft emergency or other non-routine situation.

The purpose of this document is to assure minimum standards of usability and performance for hand-held electronic portable megaphones used aboard transport category aircraft for emergency communications. In the preparation of this document consideration has been given to the performance of existing equipment as well as the recommendations of aircraft operators and megaphone manufacturers. However the primary goal of this document is to ensure that future megaphone designs will perform adequately in transport category aircraft emergency situations.
